Brief history of the Sunday School

In 1976, the Bishop Y.A. Fubara remarked, "now that the schools are no longer our own, now our Sunday School is all we can use, we are calling on all churches to organize Sunday school”. The Sunday School kicked off with the children Sunday school in the late 70's and later adult Sunday school on Sunday the 12th of June 1980. The adult Sunday school in this diocese started in St Cyprian Anglican Church Port Harcourt in 1980. The Sunday school ministry has since been expanding in her attendance and activities, in the parishes, archdeaconries, dioceses, provinces and the entire Anglican Communion Nigeria.

Also with the inauguration of the Anglican Children Ministry (ACM), the Children Sunday School is now known as the ACM. Which used to be under the the adult Sunday school.

To be a Sunday School teacher, one must be born again, be a member of the Anglican Communion, be a member of a Sunday school class, get trained or under the supervision of a superintended till one is trained.

MOTTO AND AIM OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL

Motto of the Sunday school is "teaching every man in all wisdom that we may present every man matured in Christ". Colossians 1: 28
